The Columbia Land Conservancy (CLC) welcomes you to the Greenport Conservation Area in Hudson, NY.
The Greenport Conservation Area features seven miles of easy walking trails, including an Access-for-All wheelchair-friendly path. The property covers over 736-acre with various ecological systems, including meadows, shrublands, forests, and freshwater tidal marshes.
This audio walking tour covers the southern portion of the preserve, beginning at the Hudson High School entrance. The site is a popular destination for walking, biking, birdwatching, and picnicking. In the winter, you can enjoy skiing and snowshoeing.
As you enjoy an easy hike in nature, this audio tour will tell you how the site has been influenced by past land use such as brick making and natural systems such as flooding. Keep your eyes out for monarch butterflies and grassland-nesting birds. Then, enjoy a stop along the Hudson River for stunning views of the Catskills Mountains.
CLC worked with the Open Space Institute (OSI) to establish the Greenport Conservation Area. In 1992, OSI purchased the original 400 acres, which had been actively farmed for hay, corn, and dairy production. The property was enlarged through additional acquisitions by OSI and was conveyed to CLC in 2013.
