About This Tour

Kline Kill

Knotweed

The Columbia Land Conservancy (CLC) welcomes you to Siegel-Kline Kill Conservation Area in Columbia County, NY.

Columbia County is nestled between the Catskills and Berkshires along the Hudson River north of New York City (NYC).

This 55-acre site has 1.5 miles of trails leading through old hay fields and a mature floodplain forest right along the Kline Kill's edge.

Siegel-Kline Kill is named both after the Kline Kill that runs through the property and for the property's prior owners Bob and Susan Siegel. The property was originally party of an extensive dairy farm operation. The fields of Siegel-Kline Kill, with 25 acres of excellent agricultural soils, are transitioning to a native meadow habitat.

On this walking tour you will learn about the agricultural history of the property. How it was transformed from working fields into the nature preserve it is today.

As you hike along the route, you will learn about native and nonnative plants, pollinators, birds to keep an eye out for while you walk, and the importance of riparian corridors to the region's ecology.

This tour can be enjoyed year-round by people out hiking, dog-walking, trout fishing, cross-country skiing, and even sledding!
