Just north of New York City, the Historic Hudson River Towns Tour follows the Hudson River as it flows past 16 riverfront towns and villages.

This tour is designed to lead you across the new Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge and through many of the charming riverfront communities on both sides of the Hudson. It follows Route 9 on the east side of the river, from Yonkers to Peekskill, and Route 202 and 9W on the west side from Nyack to the Bear Mountain Bridge.

On the tour, you will learn about the Native American tribes who once lived in this area, the colonial estate owners who amassed great fortunes and land holdings, the role the region played in George Washington's strategy to beat the British Army in the Revolutionary War, how the industrial revolution affected the riverfronts and both the families and fictional characters who are part of this region's cultural heritage.

But this tour is not all about the history and the past. It also will give you a sense of contemporary life in the charming Hudson River towns. Every town has stories to share, and the tour includes points of interest in the downtowns such as modern art, restaurants and bars, and local events.

Sites along the way include Bear Mountain State Park, New Croton Dam, Rockefeller State Park Preserve, and the Washington-Rochambeau National Historic Trail. To name only a few!
